Your Protagonist
On Monday we had a presentation about people who are on the margins of society and struggling to get by. We were told that they faced two major problems. 1. Meeting basic needs; shelter, food, clothing. 2. Having a Broken Heart. As our speaker said, everybody has 'heart' damage, but hopefully we have enough safety nets to keep us safe when heartbreak happens. Major heartbreak has been caused by residential schools, which has contributed to the homeless problem in Winnipeg, which the speaker went into in some detail.
Question to answer about your protagonist. What challenges, if any, does your protagonist face in meeting 1. Basic Needs 2. Having a Broken Heart
my protagonist has his basic needs met, although he was very poor.
ReplyDeleteNed has trauma from the war (battle of Okinawa, and on lots of small islands,).
My protagonist has all of his basic needs met, but he does have broken heart poverty. In boarding school he was subjected to mental and physical abuse that left lasting trauma. Although he managed to hang on to his language and beliefs through this time despite the best efforts of his teachers.
ReplyDeleteThe protagonist had most of his basic met. He had a lot of broken heart trauma. He had trauma from boarding school and his teachers trying to take his culture from him. he also had trauma from when he fought in the war.
ReplyDeleteall His basic needs are met but he is very poor. His broken heart is from being separated from his family and being separated from his native language.
